Tom Tolman

Tom was raised in the Hemet area of Southern California. One of his early jobs was working in a liquor store where he was robbed twice. He decided to do something about it and while checking a job board at Cal State Long Beach he noticed that Long Beach PD and Newport Beach PD were hiring.

He tested with both cities and was hired by Chief Glavas in April of 1976. He was in the first NBPD class to attend the OC Sheriff’s Academy. He attended with Dave Sens, Jim Coe, Gary Milius, Roger Larsen and Deputy Craig Frizzell.

After graduation, he worked Patrol, AI, Motors, CSI, and Detectives (burglary and fraud). He was the PEA President for several years. Tom was promoted to Sergeant in 1997. He then worked Patrol, Motors and CSU.

Tom retired in July of 2005 and he and wife Barbara moved to Canyon Lake, Texas. His daughter Brooke (NBPD CSO) also moved to Texas. Tom and Barbara’s house is close to the lake and they have a boat. They spend as much time as possible on the water.
